My name is Mark Sherwood-Edwards and I’m a sales-side lawyer.

If you run a business, then I’m here to make sure that your Sales Contracting Process is as effective as can be. I’m the exact opposite of the Sales Prevention Department. I’m here to make sure that your contracts get signed as quickly as possible, whilst as the same time making sure you business gets the protections it needs. 

Like most lawyers, I started off by working in law firms. I then realised that I could add more value (and have more fun) by moving in-house. That’s important because in-house lawyers look at the world differently to law firm lawyers. They understand how the different elements of the business need to come together to create successful outcomes.  And they have, from lived experience, a much better understanding of what really works.

Most lawyers are advisers by nature: they sit on the touchlines and advise. I’m not like that – I get involved and make things happen. I work closely with Sales to close (profitable) contracts. I’m an activist, and part of my success comes from being willing to make a judgment call on which points to stick and on which points to concede. This sounds like a small point, but it isn’t: lawyers are trained to be risk averse, and the easiest way to minimise risk is to never make a judgment call. (For more on this, click here).
